Compay Segundo was a guitar man, a composer whose fame equalled that of Jose Marti of Guantanamera fame. Early in his career, one note elluded him. He added a seventh string to his guitars to capture it. He captivated audiences all over the world. His music, Chan Chan, has definitely risen to the level of Guantanamera. Diametrically opposed to strumming, Compay was a Cuban National Treasure. His music will live in me eternally. He was that great!
