While Esther was depicted as a beautiful woman with wisdom, the King was depicted as a 'drunk'who appeared emotionally immature, much like a spoiled child who has no strength but who is real good at having temper tandrums. After reading the Book of Esther in the Bible, I did not personally see King Ahasuerus(Xerses) as a poor excuse for a man as he was depicted in this movie. There had to be some good in him since
God was able to depend upon the fact his heart was always good towards Esther. He never hardened his heart against her and was able to see that Haman lied to him about the Jewish people, since the very people that Haman spoke ill of was represented in the kind person of Esther. The movie depicted the King as a person without much depth to say the least, as if he was some kind of 'beast' in comparison to the lovely Esther. Esther's cousin 'Mordecai' was also depicted in a way that would lead someone to believe that he was weak also. The men were generally made to look too weak of character and dull, even the villan was dull. I felt kind of bored watching it, but I did appreciate the fact that it showed Haman's punishment and how The Jewish people were able to defend themselves as described in the scriptures in 'The Book of Esther'. 'One Night with The King' is also a film about Esther, but it's better acted eventhough it is unfortunately not totally scriptually accurate.
