Being disabled and ill a lot, I watch movies if I can't do any thing else. I stumbled on to this movie, and watched it just because… I am so glad I did! I am a USN vet, and I luv McCails Navy because it is so far fetched to be real, but looks like it could be; so too is Down Periscope!!! I would recommend it for a gathering of Vets who need comic relief; a Chiefs rite of passage (or whatever you are calling it these days.), others will luv it too, however some may be like my Marine friend and will constantly ask 'can they really do that?', Is that really real?" for example when they rig up lights to look like a fishing boat, I knew what Grammars Character was going to do and I started laughing before he did. I laughed thinking you know, you really could do that in the dead of night, more so on a stormy night! I have watched it 4 times and will watch it any time it is on! All the actors do a great job! You always hear scuttlebutt about a cook who could…. or the Sonar Tech who was either stone deaf or he could hear a pen drop over the sound of tower bells ringing!!! Get this watch it, and have a good laugh!

I purchased this DVD copy because I already own a VHS tape copy and wanted to upgrade. I thoughly enjoy Down Periscope and would recomend it to any adult.
