The Beginning Writer�s Toolbox is an innovative and comprehensive level one developmental writing textbook divided into three parts, in this order: Section One, Grammar/Mechanics/ Sentence Combining/Vocabulary; Section Two, Rhetoric; and Section Three, Reader. The Beginning Writer�s Toolbox has many key pedagogical features. First, it contains an �ESL-sensitive� format, which is also useful for academically deficient students. Second, its workbook contains an answer key, highly detailed vocabulary list, and ESL table of contents. Third, writing assignments center on the essays in the Reader (so students learn to conduct that all-important �dialogue with the text�). Finally, essays that cover issues students face on a daily basis in our society, (ethnic prejudice, �alternative� lifestyles, a college degree vs. a high school diploma, the teacher�s obligation to the learning-disabled student).
