24: Season 02 Part of Series: 24 [TV Series] Employing split screens and kinetic pacing, the real-time action thriller-drama 24 became a fast cult hit when it premiered on FOX in late 2001. Each one-hour episode covers an hour in a single day that unfolds over the course of a season. Kiefer Sutherland stars as über-hero Jack Bauer, a daring and seemingly indestructible agent for the fictitious U.S.-intelligence body the Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU). Throughout the series, Bauer has stopped an assassination attempt, thwarted a nuclear attack, been widowed, decapitated a witness, died, and become addicted to narcotics while undercover with a drug cartel. Among the other characters are President David Palmer (Dennis Haysbert), who was candidate Palmer throughout the first season, later had the Presidency swiped from under him, and was the victim of a bio-attack at the end of the second season; Kim Bauer (Elisha Cuthbert), Jack's trouble-prone, damsel-in-distress daughter; and Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard), a fellow-CIA agent with whom Jack has both butted heads and allied. Noted for its unflinching ability to kill off major players for the sake of the show, an assortment of other characters have come and gone throughout the show's history. ~ Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide
Includes Seasons: 24: Season 02
Includes Episodes: 24: Day 2, 12:00 PM-1:00 PM CTU is in shambles, with parts of the building cordoned off because they might collapse. Tony (Carlos Bernard) tells Mason (Xander Berkeley) he's leaving to investigate a lead -- a local businessman who's had contact with known terrorists. Tony goes to the Warner house to interrogate Reza (Phillip Rhys). Bob (John Terry) and Kate (Sarah Wynter) try to keep Marie (Laura Harris) from finding out about the investigation going on in the house on her wedding day, while an indignant Reza denies any knowledge of Syed Ali. When Marie learns that Kate hired a private investigator to look into Reza's background, she explodes and tells Kate to leave. Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) calls Mason to let him know that Nina (Sarah Clarke) was the source of the terrorists' information. She's being transferred to CTU for interrogation, and Mason is determined to keep Jack, who's returning to CTU for a debriefing, away from her. Nina is brought in, and offers to give up everything she knows in exchange for a full presidential pardon. Jack realizes that Mason has radiation sickness, and uses the information to coerce Mason into letting him handle Nina's interrogation. Gary (Billy Burke) finds Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) at the hospital, and warns her to leave or he'll have her arrested for kidnapping. She calls her boyfriend, Miguel (Innis Casey), for help. Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) meets with an Arab ambassador, who requests an exchange of intelligence information on Second Wave. Palmer agrees, despite the protestations of Lynne (Michelle Forbes) and Roger Stanton (an uncredited Harris Yulin). ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide 24: Day 2, 1:00 PM-2:00 PM Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) promises a full investigation of the ambassador's chopper crash. Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald) shows up, and tells him that military personnel are being evacuated from L.A. Lynne (Michelle Forbes) finds out it's true. The military was being evacuated against Palmer's orders. Palmer confronts Stanton (Harris Yulin), who claims he was doing it based on earlier orders he got from Rayburn. Palmer agrees to meet with Sherry, and tells her about the terrorist plot. She won't reveal her source, but says she wants to help him, and she's heard that people within his own administration are conspiring against him. Nina (Sarah Clarke) gets her presidential pardon, and, interrogated intensely by Jack (Kiefer Sutherland), says that she has to meet her contact in Visalia. Jack takes Nina there, but Mason (Xander Berkeley) sends another agent along to protect Nina. Nina tries to manipulate the situation to her advantage, but Jack has his own plan. Kate (Sarah Wynter) tries to explain her actions to Marie (Laura Harris), who won't accept her explanation. When Tony (Carlos Bernard) threatens to arrest Reza (Phillip Rhys), Reza tells him that any transactions he made were to cover for Bob (John Terry). Gary (Billy Burke) is plotting to take Megan (Skye McCole Bartusiak) from the hospital and run away with her, but Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) and Miguel (Innis Casey) manage to thwart his plan, and escape with the girl. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide 24: Day 2, 2:00 PM-3:00 PM Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) and Nina (Sarah Clarke) arrive at the airport and meet with an FBI agent, Phillips (Michael Cudlitz of Band of Brothers), who is determined to keep Nina safe. They fly to Visalia, where Nina meets with Faheen (Anthony Azizi). Things go wrong, Faheen ends up unconscious, and Nina tries to escape, but Jack catches her, and struggles to resist the urge to kill her. Mike (Jude Ciccolella) shows up at Palmer's (Dennis Haysbert) compound. He greets Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald) warmly, but when he hears about her conspiracy theory, he warns Palmer that she might have her own agenda. Nevertheless, he agrees to keep a close eye on Stanton (Harris Yulin), who Palmer suspects may be involved in the plot against him. Marie (Laura Harris) gets angry with Reza (Phillip Rhys) when she learns that he's accused her father, Bob (John Terry). But Bob suggests they both cooperate when Tony (Carlos Bernard) wants to take them to CTU for questioning. Left alone, a bewildered Kate (Sarah Wynter) calls her private investigator to get help accessing her father's computer files. Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) and Miguel (Innis Casey) steal Gary's car and get Megan (Skye McCole Bartusiak) out of the city, but they're stopped for speeding by a highway patrolman (Michael McGrady). Mason's (Xander Berkeley) condition is worsening. He has his estranged son (Eric Christian Olsen) brought in so he can apologize to him, say goodbye, and warn him to leave the city. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide 24: Day 2, 3:00 PM-4:00 PM After Carla's body is found in the trunk of the car, Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) and Miguel (Innis Casey) are arrested for kidnapping and murder. They try to explain the situation to Brown (Michael McGrady), the patrolman who caught them, and Kim begs him to call CTU to confirm their story. Tony (Carlos Bernard) brings in Reza (Phillip Rhys) and Bob (John Terry) for questioning, and learns that Bob is a consultant for the CIA. Both deny any connection to the terrorists, forcing Mason (Xander Berkeley) to get tough with them. Meanwhile, Paul (Al Sapienza) helps Kate (Sarah Wynter) look into her father's files, where they discover money transfers to Syed Ali, and some top-secret files. There's a growing interest in the whereabouts of Wieland (Michael Holden), the reporter that Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) has detained. Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald) offers to try to persuade Wieland to keep quiet about the terrorist threat, in exchange for exclusive access later. Wieland doesn't go for it. To make matters worse, he somehow gets out of custody and publicly chastises Palmer for not telling the public about the threat. Faheen (Anthony Azizi) won't talk, so Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) takes him and Nina (Sarah Clarke) back to L.A. But their plane is attacked en route. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide 24: Day 2, 4:00 PM-5:00 PM Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) suspects Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald) of freeing Wieland (Michael Holden), but surveillance footage shows that it was someone else. Palmer is considering attacking the reporter's credibility, but Sherry suggests he simply tell the truth. "It's what you're good at," she reminds him. Sherry has another unpleasant encounter with Lynne (Michelle Forbes) when she gets ahold of Palmer's speech and revises it without Lynne's consent. Despite CTU's efforts on their behalf, Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) and Miguel (Innis Casey) are being brought back to L.A. Reza (Phillip Rhys), feeling that Bob (John Terry) has been using him, offers to cooperate with CTU's investigation. Meanwhile, Kate (Sarah Wynter) and Paul (Al Sapienza) have been abducted by Syed Ali (Francesco Quinn), who wants to know what they learned in looking through Bob's files, and who they told. They torture Paul, to no avail. Jack's (Kiefer Sutherland) plane is forced to make a crash landing. He's unable to convince Nina (Sarah Clarke) to give up the bomb's location as the plane goes down. On the ground after the crash, Jack revives Nina. The crash site is quickly swarmed by rogue military personnel. Jack and Nina escape and hold them off until a CTU chopper arrives, but Nina manages to get the jump on Jack and has him at gunpoint, demanding to speak to Palmer. She says she'll reveal the location of the bomb if Palmer gives her immunity -- in advance -- for killing Jack. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide 24: Day 2, 5:00 PM-6:00 PM Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) holds a press conference downplaying the terror threat and explaining that he withheld information in the best interest of the country. While CTU uses Nina's (Sarah Clarke) information to track down Syed Ali (Francesco Quinn), Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) manages to draw her out into the open, where she's shot and wounded by a CTU sniper. Jack tells Palmer that the soldiers who attacked them at the crash site were Americans, from a deep cover special ops unit commanded by an NSA colonel. A CTU team heads to Ali's house, where they arrive just in time to prevent Kate (Sarah Wynter) from being killed. But Ali is not there, having gone to a nearby mosque to pray. Mason (Xander Berkeley) is slowly dying, and he warns Michelle (Reiko Aylesworth) not to waste her life. He tells her to get out of CTU if she's not happy in her work. This prompts her to express her long-suppressed romantic feelings to Tony (Carlos Bernard), who feels the same way. Palmer calls in Stanton (Harris Yulin) to talk about the NSA covert ops team, and doesn't believe him when he denies any knowledge. Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald) comes up with more evidence that Stanton is working against Palmer. Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) and Miguel (Innis Casey) start a fire in an effort to create a diversion, and inadvertently cause Brown (Michael McGrady) to crash his police cruiser. Kim calls for an ambulance before running off into the woods. Working with a CTU agent at his office, Reza (Phillip Rhys) discovers that one of the transactions involving Ali was made when both he and Bob (John Terry) were out of town, and only one other person had access to his laptop. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide 24: Day 2, 6:00 PM-7:00 PM Syed Ali (Francesco Quinn) calls Marie (Laura Harris) to tell her that the plan has changed. He needs her to change her appearance, get the trigger for the nuke, and bring it to Omar. Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) takes a frazzled Kate (Sarah Wynter) to the mosque so she can ID Ali. To save precious time, she volunteers to go inside the mosque wearing a burqa and confirm that Ali is there. She sees him inside, and reports back to Jack, but after the prayer service, Ali doesn't come out of the building, so Jack orders the CTU team to move in. Mike (Jude Ciccolella) suggests that Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) take Stanton (Harris Yulin) out of commission, despite the lack of hard evidence, and do whatever it takes to get information from him. While Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald) presses Lynne (Michelle Forbes) for information, Palmer has Stanton arrested for treason. Stanton continues to claim he knows nothing. Palmer asks Ted (Steven Culp), a Secret Service agent with a background in secret ops, to interrogate Stanton, using any means necessary. Tony (Carlos Bernard) finds out that Marie killed Reza, and reluctantly gives Bob (John Terry) the disturbing news. Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) runs into the woods, where she faces wild animals and gets caught in a hunter's trap. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide 24: Day 2, 7:00 PM-8:00 PM Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) finds a trap door in the mosque, and goes down alone in search of Syed Ali (Francesco Quinn). Before Jack catches up to him, Ali calls Marie (Laura Harris) and tells her to go to the rendezvous point, and proceed without him if he doesn't show up in an hour. Jack manages to capture Ali and prevent him from killing himself. Kate (Sarah Wynter) overhears the CTU team talking about the last number Ali dialed on his cell phone, and recognizes it as Marie's number. Jack tells her about Marie's involvement, and asks her to call her sister and hold her on the line as long as possible so they can trace the call. Marie quickly sees through the ruse, and disposes of her cell. Jack then threatens to have Ali's family murdered, live via satellite, while the hapless terrorist watches. Ali reluctantly tells them the bomb is at Norton Airfield, and a CTU team is dispatched. Jack brings Kate along, in case they need her to talk to Marie. Lynne (Michelle Forbes) tells Mike (Jude Ciccolella) she has proof that Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald) is in cahoots with Stanton (Harris Yulin), and that she's going to meet with her source. But when Lynne arrives for the meeting, she finds Sherry there, proclaiming her innocence. Meanwhile, Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) is released from the trap in the woods by Lonnie (Kevin Dillon), a hunter, who offers her a place to stay for the night. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide 24: Day 2, 8:00 PM-9:00 PM Lonnie (Kevin Dillon) takes Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) to his remote cabin. When she tells him about the nuclear threat against L.A., he feels vindicated. It turns out that Ronnie is a survivalist, with a bomb shelter full of weapons, explosives, and gourmet coffee. Kim is prepared to leave, but is frightened into staying when a park ranger comes by looking for her. Ronnie then convinces her that he's heard there's been a nuclear explosion in L.A. over his short-wave radio. They retire to the bomb shelter. Stanton (Harris Yulin) tells Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) that his people have known about the nuke for a long time. They allowed it into the country and their paramilitary team has been tracking it with plans to intercede at the last minute, all in an effort to change Palmer's foreign policy. Despite Lynne's (Michelle Forbes) reservations, Palmer brings Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald) into the OC to track another lead. Mason (Xander Berkeley) warns Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) that there's a rogue team in place that may try to stop CTU from finding the nuke. But Jack's team finds the rogue team dead. Stanton lets Palmer know that there's one team member missing. Jack manages to capture Omar (Marc Casabani) as he tries to escape on a plane, but the "nuclear device" they find is a decoy. When Palmer tells Stanton the nuke wasn't where he said it was going to be, Stanton says, "Talk to Sherry." ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide 24: Day 2, 8:00 AM-9:00 AM As the second season of 24 opens, a man being tortured in Seoul, South Korea, reveals a secret that is immediately shared with the U.S. military representatives on the scene. David Palmer (Dennis Haysbert), now the president, is interrupted while on a fishing trip with his son, Keith (Vicellous Shannon), and told that there is a good chance that a terrorist-controlled nuclear weapon is on U.S. soil, in Los Angeles, and that the weapon is set to be detonated that very day. Kim Bauer (Elisha Cuthbert) is working as a nanny for Gary (Billy Burke) and Carla (Tracy Middendorf), taking care of their daughter Megan (Skye McCole Bartusiak) and trying to ignore Gary’s leering attention. George Mason (Xander Berkeley) is still waiting for the call to Washington. CTU gets a message from the NSA to bring in Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland). Jack is still struggling to get over the death of his wife, and Kim’s refusal to spend any time with him is not helping. Palmer is briefed about Second Wave, a terrorist organization, and confronts the prime minister of an Arab country believed to support the group. Eric Rayburn (Timothy Carhart), an aide, wants Palmer to involve the military, but the president is not ready to take that step. Marie (Laura Harris) is preparing to marry her Arab boyfriend, Reza (Phillip Rhys), but Marie’s sister, Kate (Sarah Wynter), is very suspicious of the young man and has a background check done on him. Paula (Sara Gilbert), a new member of the CTU team, needs reassurance from Tony (Carlos Bernard) to deal with the pressure of the terrorist threat. Jack refuses to come back to CTU, but relents when Palmer contacts him personally. Fox originally broadcast this episode without commercial interruption. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide
